Your air conditioning can go out at the most inopportune time and leave you dealing with hot weather that you thought you would be able to hide from in the comfort of your own home. For this reason, you want to make sure you know some hacks that can help you stay cool until you can get a technician out to get your air back up and running. Here are some tips and hacks you want to keep in mind:

Save that cool morning air

When you wake up in the morning, you will notice that the house is cooler, and you should do what you can to preserve this temperature in the house. Go around and make sure all of the blinds are closed, especially on windows that will be hit by the sunlight later on in the day. If some of your windows are missing blinds then you should hang something like a thick blanket over the windows to keep the heat of the sun out. Having tint applied to the windows will also help in the future.

Be careful with which doors in the house you leave open

Most homes have some rooms that tend to be the hotter rooms during the warmer season. When your air isn't working properly, you want to prevent the warmer air from those rooms from making its way throughout the rest of the house and raising the overall temperature. You want to limit the number of times the doors to those rooms get open and make sure they are shut all the way. You should even roll up a towel and put it at the bottom of the door if there is a space between the floor and the door that would allow air to escape.

Shut the vents along the bottom of the home's exterior

If you find vents along the exterior of your home you should shut them so the warm air doesn't creep underneath of the house and cause it to warm up from the floor up. If there is no way to shut them then you may even want to temporarily put boards up against them for the time being.

Make good use of fans

Use all of your ceiling fans and set your floor fans up so they properly circulate the air throughout the house in a way that helps to drop the temperature so the house stays as comfortable as possible until the air conditioning can be fixed.
